Ongoing since 2014, Mushoku In Excursion is a duo project by Takahashi 'Takakhan' Seiji and Yuko Nexus6. Kyoto-based Takahashi has planned and organized a wide variety of performances and events. Yuko Nexus6 is a performance artist/writer who lived for a long time in the Kansai area and now resides in Tokyo.
The creation of this album began with the two making a one-hour recording by the Uji River in Kyoto. The tape became a foundation over which Yuko Nexus6 (piano, shamisen, guitar) and Takahashi (guitar) overlaid a recording of the sounds of playing, tuning and cleaning their instruments. This recording was divided into the 16 tracks on this CD. As a result of this recording process, the base recording of the creators’ conversation by the Uji River makes appearances, in intervals ranging from a few seconds to just over a minute, between the overlaid recordings.
Yoko Ikeda (viola), Ami Yoshida (voice) and Yuma Takeshita (bass) each appeared as a guest on one or two tracks. Both idiosyncratic and captivating, this album truly displays the special character of Mushoku In Excursion.

This CD was produced in the following way. First, we made a recording of one hour, six minutes and 54 seconds (1:06:54) beside the Uji River in Kyoto. Many tracks were recorded over this tape. That’s why the sound of the Uji River occasionally makes an appearance in the tracks. If you’re a person of a certain age, at some time you probably recorded TV shows repeatedly over a VHS videotape, or recorded many times over a cassette tape. I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s been surprised by an unerased image or sound that suddenly pops out. We love the unexpectedness of things being beyond our control.
